New York city has launched an advertising campaign, trying to persuade its citizens to choose tap water over bottled water. Local restaurants are also being encouraged to join in.

The campaign aims to reduce waste, 80% of plastic water bottles go to landfill sites, as well as saving the public money. It could also affect global warming. Production of bottles causes greenhouse gas emissions, and so does transporting bottled water over great distances.
