Carbon offset schemes have been criticized lately, in the UK as well as elsewhere. But British MPs examining the issue have announced their support for the schemes.

While the environmental audit committee had reservations about some schemes it found carbon offset as such to be worthwhile. Schemes run by some airlines did come in for strong criticism.

The committee’s report urges the airline industry to work with the government, and to accept a duty to act now. It goes on to say that increasing use of offsets should be a priority in this.
